Art Studio Accessories: Aprons, Brush Pouches and Drawing Tubes

Good art accessories don’t paint the picture, but they keep your clothes clean, your brushes safe and your drawings flat on the way to class. This Haanz Art Guide covers the studio and travel accessories we stock and who needs each one.
Keep clean: the artist apron
The Mont Marte Artist Apron protects your clothes while you paint, with pockets for tools and an adjustable fit. Acrylic and oil paint are very hard to wash out of fabric once dry, so an apron saves school uniforms and favourite clothes. It is also useful for pottery, clay and craft.
Protect your brushes: brush pouches
The Brush Pouch, Small protects brushes and makes them easy to carry. Brush tips get bent and frayed when they are thrown loose into a bag, and a bent tip never paints the same again. Put brushes in only when they are completely dry.
For oil painters: brush holder and oil cans
The MEEDEN Brush Holder and Double Oil Can Set is made for oil painters. The double oil can clips to your palette, so you can keep medium in one cup and cleaner in the other, and the brush holder keeps brushes off the table. It keeps your workspace tidy and your mediums within reach.
Carry big drawings: drawing tubes
Folding a drawing ruins it. A drawing tube lets you carry posters, plans and large drawings rolled and protected.
- Drawing Tube 65–110cm, diameter 10.5cm: extends from 65 to 110cm, with a shoulder strap or handle. Holds several large sheets.
- Drawing Tube 65–110cm, diameter 8.5cm: a slimmer version for fewer sheets.
- Drawing Tube M and Drawing Tube L: fixed sizes for everyday use.
How to roll a drawing: place a clean sheet of paper over the drawing, roll loosely with the drawing facing outwards, and slide it into the tube. Rolling outwards makes the sheet easier to flatten later. Fix charcoal and pastel drawings before rolling.
Architecture and engineering students, A/L art students and anyone carrying exam pieces will find a tube very useful. See also our guide to large drawing paper sheets.
Draw anywhere: clipboards
A clipboard gives you a firm surface for sketching outdoors or in class:
Clip or tape your paper so it doesn’t move. A clipboard and a small pencil case make a simple sketching kit. See Outdoor and Urban Sketching for ideas.

Frequently asked questions
Which drawing tube size do I need?
Measure the shortest side of your paper. The tube must be longer than that. For 70 x 100cm sheets rolled along the short side, an extending 65–110cm tube works well.
Does the apron protect against oil paint?
It keeps paint off your clothes, but oil paint can soak through any fabric if it’s thick and wet, so wipe spills quickly.
Do you deliver islandwide?
Yes. We deliver across Sri Lanka in 2–5 working days, with cash on delivery, card or bank transfer. You can also visit our shops in Boralesgamuwa and Horana, open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM.
