Large Drawing Paper Sheets: Working With 70 x 100cm Paper

Big drawings need large drawing paper. A full 70 x 100cm sheet gives you room for life-size portraits, exam pieces, posters and murals, and you can cut it down into smaller sizes when you need them. This Haanz Art Guide explains the large sheets we stock, which weight to choose and how to cut and store big paper without damage.
Fabriano Accademia full sheets
Fabriano Accademia is a natural white Italian drawing paper with a fine-grained surface. It takes graphite, charcoal, pastel and ink well. We stock the full 70 x 100cm sheet in three weights:
- Fabriano Accademia 70 x 100cm, 120gsm: the lightest. Good for sketches, studies and drawings that will be mounted.
- Fabriano Accademia 70 x 100cm, 160gsm: a little firmer, a good middle choice for pencil and charcoal.
- Fabriano Accademia 70 x 100cm, 200gsm: the heaviest of the three. It stays flatter, handles more erasing and suits finished pieces.
If you prefer smaller formats, the same paper comes as A4 240gsm sheets and an A4 200gsm drawing pad with 30 sheets. For an introduction to this paper range, read our Fabriano Accademia paper guide.
Other large Fabriano papers
Fabriano Designo, 50 x 35cm, 200gsm. A cotton-content paper for drawing, ink, printmaking and light watercolour. A good choice for mixed media.
Fabriano Artistico Rough, 56 x 76cm, 300gsm. Fabriano’s professional, mould-made cotton watercolour paper. The rough surface gives washes a lively, grainy texture. Choose this for serious watercolour work rather than dry drawing.

How to choose the weight
- 120gsm: light and easy to roll. Good for practice, sketching and pieces you will mount on board.
- 160gsm: a balanced choice for most pencil, charcoal and pastel work.
- 200gsm: firmer and flatter, takes repeated erasing, and suits final pieces and exam work.
- 300gsm cotton (Artistico): for wet media such as watercolour.
For dry media on a big sheet, many students choose 160gsm or 200gsm.
How to cut a large sheet
You can cut one 70 x 100cm sheet into:
- 2 sheets of about 50 x 70cm,
- 4 sheets of about 35 x 50cm,
- or 8 smaller pieces for studies.
For clean edges, use a sharp craft knife and a steel ruler on a cutting mat. For a soft, deckled edge, fold the sheet firmly, crease it with the back of a spoon and tear slowly along the fold against a ruler.
How to carry and store big sheets
- Store sheets flat in a drawer, folder or under a board, away from damp walls.
- For carrying, roll the paper loosely with the drawing side facing out, then put it in a drawing tube. Rolling with the drawing outward makes it easier to flatten later.
- Don’t fold drawing paper. Creases show under charcoal and pastel.
- In humid weather, keep a sheet of plain paper between drawings. Our guide to storing art supplies has more tips.
Drawing on a large sheet
- Tape the sheet to a board or easel at the corners so it doesn’t move.
- Stand back often. Large drawings are easier to judge from a distance.
- Work from top to bottom to avoid smudging, and rest your hand on a clean sheet of paper.
- Fix finished charcoal and pastel drawings with fixative.
Frequently asked questions
Which weight should I use for an A/L art exam piece?
Check your exam rules first. For dry media, 160gsm or 200gsm gives a firm surface that copes with erasing.
Can I use Accademia for watercolour?
It can take light washes, but for real watercolour work choose a watercolour paper such as Fabriano Artistico.
Will the paper arrive rolled?
Large sheets are usually rolled for safe transport. Unroll them and leave them flat under books for a day before drawing.
Do you deliver islandwide?
Yes. We deliver across Sri Lanka in 2–5 working days, with cash on delivery, card or bank transfer. You can also visit our shops in Boralesgamuwa and Horana, open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM.
