Coaster Mould Styles: Wave, Handle and Classic Coasters

Coasters are the classic resin project, but the coaster mould you choose changes the whole look. Wave-pattern moulds create a sea-like texture, handle and hole moulds make coasters easy to hang or carry, and classic shapes suit almost any design. This Haanz Art Guide compares the coaster moulds we stock so you can pick the right style for your next set.
Wave-pattern coaster moulds
Wave moulds have a textured, rippled surface that looks like water, even in a single colour.
- Wave Coaster Silicone Mold 9926239: an oval wave-pattern coaster mould, about 12.5 x 9.5cm. Good for coasters, small trays and ornaments.
- Wave Coaster Mold, Round with Hole
- Wave Coaster Mold, Square with Hole
Design idea: pour blue and turquoise resin with white swirls. The wave texture makes it look like the sea without any painting.
Coasters with handles
- Handle Coaster Silicone Mold, Round 9926676: a round coaster with a built-in handle, so it can double as a small serving board or hang on a hook.
Design idea: a wood-look coaster in brown and amber tones, or a pastel marble with gold flakes.

Which style should you choose?
- Ocean and beach themes: wave moulds.
- Coasters you want to hang on display: moulds with a hole, or drill one after curing.
- Serving pieces and gifts: handle coasters.
- Pressed flowers, photos and letters: smooth classic shapes, which show inclusions clearly.
- Matching sets: buy two or more of the same mould so you can pour a full set at once.
Tips for a great coaster set
- Pour all coasters in a set from one mix so colours match.
- Keep the mould level, or coasters will be thicker on one side and wobble on the table.
- Add felt or cork pads underneath to protect furniture.
- Sand any sharp edges and add a thin top coat for shine. See Drilling, Sanding and Polishing Resin.
- Don’t put very hot mugs straight from the stove on resin coasters; strong heat can mark resin.
For step-by-step coaster instructions, read How to Make Resin Coasters, and for colours see How to Colour Resin.
Gift set ideas
- Ocean set: four wave coasters in different blues, tied with rope.
- Floral set: classic round coasters each with a different pressed flower.
- Initial set: coasters with family initials in gold letters.
- Wedding favour: small coasters with the couple’s initials and date.
Caring for silicone moulds
Silicone moulds last a long time if you look after them:
- Demould gently by flexing the silicone. Don’t pull pieces out with tools.
- Wipe moulds clean with a soft cloth or tape to lift dust. Don’t scrub with anything rough, or the shiny finish of future pieces will suffer.
- Store moulds flat, out of sunlight, and don’t stack heavy things on top, so they keep their shape.
- Keep a separate set of moulds for resin only. Food and resin should never share moulds.
Frequently asked questions
How thick should a resin coaster be?
Thick enough to feel solid and not bend, but not so thick that it overheats while curing. Follow your resin’s depth guidance.
Why do my coasters wobble?
The mould wasn’t level while curing. Use a level board and check with a spirit level.
Do you deliver islandwide?
Yes. We deliver across Sri Lanka in 2–5 working days, with cash on delivery, card or bank transfer. You can also visit our shops in Boralesgamuwa and Horana, open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM.
