Resin Jewellery for Beginners: Pendants, Earrings and Keychains

Small, glossy pendants, earrings and keychains are one of the most popular ways to start resin art. This guide to resin jewellery for beginners explains which resin to use, how open pendant frames work, the findings you need to turn a resin piece into wearable jewellery, and how to make a simple first pendant.
Which resin is good for resin jewellery?
- UV resin is the easiest choice for small jewellery. It needs no mixing and hardens in minutes under a UV lamp, so you can build a pendant in thin layers in one session. See our UV resin guide.
- Epoxy resin is mixed from two parts and cures more slowly. It suits batches of pieces poured into moulds. FUJIN epoxy mixes 1:1 by volume; the small FUJIN Epoxy Resin 50ml + 50ml kit is a good size for jewellery.

How to make a resin pendant in an open frame
- Wear gloves and cover your work surface.
- Press the open frame firmly onto the sticky side of UV tape, so there are no gaps.
- Add a thin layer of UV resin and spread it to the edges with a toothpick.
- Place dried flowers or glitter, then pop any bubbles with the toothpick.
- Cure under the UV lamp for the time on the resin label.
- Add another thin layer and cure again. Repeat until the frame is full, with a slight dome on top.
- Peel off the tape, add a thin coat to the back and cure it too.
- Attach a jump ring and a chain or key ring.
How to open and close a jump ring
Hold the ring with two pliers, or pliers and your fingers, with the opening at the top. Twist one side towards you and the other away, like opening a door. Never pull the ends apart sideways, because the ring loses its shape and won’t close neatly. Slip on your pendant, then twist the ends back until they meet.
Tips for neat, glossy jewellery
- Use thin layers; thick UV resin may stay soft inside.
- Keep colour light so the UV light can cure the resin. Our guide to colouring resin explains how.
- Drill holes only after the resin has fully cured.
- Store finished pieces away from strong sunlight and heat.
- Keep small parts away from young children.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stop resin leaking out of an open frame?
Press the frame firmly onto UV tape and start with a very thin first layer. Cure it before adding more resin.
Can I make earrings without a mould?
Yes. Open frames with UV tape let you make earrings and pendants without a mould.
Do I need special pliers for jump rings?
Any small, smooth-jawed crafting plier works. Two pliers make opening rings easier.
Do you deliver islandwide?
Yes. We deliver across Sri Lanka in 2–5 working days, with cash on delivery, card or bank transfer. You can also visit our shops in Boralesgamuwa and Horana, open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM.
