Resin Trays and Tiered Stands: Moulds, Handles and Brackets

Flower Tray Mold - MD3418 - Haanz Sri Lanka
Haanz Art GuideFree, practical advice from the team at Haanz Art & Craft Materials

A resin tray is one of the most impressive things you can make with resin. Swirled colours, gold flakes and pressed flowers turn a simple shape into a jewellery tray, a dressing-table organiser or a tiered stand. This Haanz Art Guide covers the tray and plate moulds we stock, the handles and brackets that finish them, and how to pour larger pieces successfully.

Tray and plate moulds

These flexible silicone moulds release easily and can be reused. Check the product photos for exact sizes.

For many small pieces in one pour, the 12-cavity Tray Mold makes a batch at once.

How to pour a large tray

Trays use more resin than jewellery, so planning matters.

  1. Level the mould on a flat board so you can move it without bending.
  2. Measure the volume. Fill the mould with water, pour the water into a measuring jug, then dry the mould completely. That tells you how much resin to mix.
  3. Mix in batches if your resin instructions limit the amount per mix.
  4. Add colour: pour two or three tinted resins and swirl gently with a stick for marble effects. See How to Colour Resin.
  5. Add inclusions such as gold leaf, foil or flat dried flowers near the surface.
  6. Pop bubbles, cover the mould with a box to keep dust off, and let it cure fully.
  7. Demould slowly, flexing the silicone all the way round.

Adding handles

Mark handle positions before pouring if the handle needs holes, or attach handles after curing with strong glue or small screws as the handle design allows. Drill slowly with a small bit to avoid cracking. See Resin Tools and Accessories.

Building a tiered stand

Make three plates with the 3-layer mould, let them cure fully, then fit them onto the fruit tray bracket. Keep the stand on a flat, stable surface.

Using resin trays safely

Most craft resins are not made for direct contact with food. Use trays for jewellery, keys, cosmetics, candles or decoration, or place food on a plate or paper liner on top. Keep resin trays away from hot pots and direct heat.

Caring for silicone moulds

Silicone moulds last a long time if you look after them:

  • Demould gently by flexing the silicone. Don’t pull pieces out with tools.
  • Wipe moulds clean with a soft cloth or tape to lift dust. Don’t scrub with anything rough, or the shiny finish of future pieces will suffer.
  • Store moulds flat, out of sunlight, and don’t stack heavy things on top, so they keep their shape.
  • Keep a separate set of moulds for resin only. Food and resin should never share moulds.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my tray bend after demoulding?

It was probably demoulded too early. Large pieces need the full curing time before they are firm.

Can I make a tray with pressed flowers?

Yes. Seal paper-thin flowers first and place them face down in a thin first layer. See Dried Flowers in Resin.

Do you deliver islandwide?

Yes. We deliver across Sri Lanka in 2–5 working days, with cash on delivery, card or bank transfer. You can also visit our shops in Boralesgamuwa and Horana, open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM.
